June 24, 2025 -- Keith and Dina Emig of Winter Haven Orchid Society
The Tampa Orchid Club’s June 24, 2025 meeting was a fragrant feast for the senses thanks to guest speakers Keith and Dina Emit of the Winter Haven Orchid Society. Keith shared his deep love and knowledge of Cattleyas in a truly captivating presentation of his top 20 unifoliates.
A few standouts from his list included:
🌸 C. mossiae
Known as the “Easter Cattleya,” this Venezuelan native features big, floppy, fragrant flowers.
🌸 C. trianae
Blooms in winter with up to 8” fragrant flowers. The ‘Big Bopper’ alba variety is especially showy with huge white blooms, once popular in corsages.
🌸 C. labiata
Considered the “Mother of all Cattleyas,” this species originates from Brazil and Venezuela and smells delightfully of cloves.
🌸 C. Woodsly
Nicknamed the “Queen of Orchids,” this one drew audible gasps from the room.
🌸 C. 'Raquela'
Simply stunning—OMG levels of beautiful!
Keith provided a full-length Powerpoint list of many more of these magnificent Cattleyas. The images were astounding, one amazing bloom after another...
It was truly a WOW! presentation.
